Questioning: Ask questions in a way that someone that hasn't been in manufacturing or has not yet been a supervisor can still provide a response to show they are capable of such a position. Some of the best supervisors have not been one.
Requirements (Hire Players):
- Radical Ownership — You treat your shift's metrics (OEE, Scrap, Yield, Safety) as your own. When things go wrong, you don't deflect; you diagnose and fix. Able to take direction and operator autonomously.
- Proactive Problem Solving — You don't wait for engineering or maintenance to notice a problem. You are actively on the floor, identifying problems. You know what problems your team faces and are constantly making improvements and proposing solutions to remove barriers to help them work better. General ability to understand mechanical type problems clearly.
- Team Development — You measure your success by the capability of your operators. You actively cross-train, coach, and elevate the people around you, rather than just telling them what to do.
- Cultural Leadership — You run a floor where gossip and negativity have no oxygen. You foster an environment where operators feel psychologically safe to raise concerns and pitch ideas. You and your team have a respect for each other and a respect for resources.
- Good communicator — Can talk, request help, coach, report-out, and represent their team well.
